Fire
The Greensboro Fire department was first organized in 1884 and has grown to 25 stations across the City, with
one station under construction. Greensboro was the first fire department in the nation to receive the highest
rating given by the insurance industry and holds the highest level of accreditation awarded by the Commission
on Fire Accreditation International.

Overall, demand for fire service increased during the 2016-17 fiscal year by 5.96% from the previous year.
Medical calls made up the largest category of calls at 70%. Based on analysis of calls for service, demand for
service is generally greatest in the central southern and eastern portions of the City.
