Greensboro Transit Authority
Established in 1991, Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) is the City’s public transportation agency. GTA
provides fixed route services on sixteen daily routes, with more limited weekend service. GTA collaborates
with local colleges and universities in the Higher Education Area Transit (HEAT) Program that operates four
university-oriented routes during the school year. GTA also operates the Specialized Community Area
Transportation service (SCAT) for passengers with disabilities. Ridership peaked in 2012, declining slightly over
the past four years. Total ridership for 2016 was 3,913,766, nearly doubling the ridership in 2000.
